Power to grant Extension of Time in Construction Contract

The question which is always posed whether the architect/project director has exercised his power to extend time properly and in accordance with the contract?

The architect has a duty, coextensive with his power, to make such decisions. He must perform his duty, or exercise his power with reasonable diligence and in accordance with the contract. His decision must also be clear and unequivocal, so that the parties know where they stand in terms of their rights and obligations under the contract.

The architect must make it clear within the time provided in the contract or where no time is provided, within a time which in all the circumstances is reasonable, whether he has made decision and what is the decision.
